Item Description
Teoria is an ear-training and music theory software
program for Windows. Imagine hearing a song and instantly knowing the
chords and/or melody just by listening to it. That's the type of thing
this program can teach you. Learn to identify
the sounds you're hearing and understand the theory behind it. Teoria is a program
for musicians of all levels, beginner to advanced. It covers everything, from reading
notes on the music staff to chord and scale construction to advanced college level studies
like secondary dominants, neopolitan 6th chords, jazz and gregorian modes and much more. Our
goal was to create a program that would give musicians all the ear-training and theory
drills they need at a very affordable price. Take a look at everything this program covers:
Practice reading notes on the music staff with any clef. Great for beginners or advanced students who need to learn uncommon
clefs. You can choose timed or untimed exercises. Choose to learn notes on lines and/or spaces with ledger lines
or without. Great for musicians of all levels.
Choose from ANY clef or a combination of clefs: Treble, bass, alto, tenor, soprano, mezzo and baritone.
Teoria lets you customize the exercises so you can learn at your own pace. You can choose which intervals
to include and the exercises can have a time limit if you prefer. You can choose what clef to enter your answers on.
Choose if you want the intervals to have accidentals. Interval exercises can include ascending and/or descending
intervals. This section includes exercises for interval identification, interval construction, and interval
ear-training with both melodic and harmonic intervals.
Any of the following intervals can be selected in the exercises:
minor 2nd, major 2nd, aug 2nd, minor 3rd, major 3rd, dim 3rd, perfect 4th, dim 4th, aug 4th, perfect 5th, dim 5th, aug 5th, minor 6th,
major 6th, aug 6th, minor 7th, major 7th, diminished 7th, and perfect octave.
In this section you get exercises for learning key signatures, scales, and melodic dictation.
You'll learn to identify all of the major and minor key signatures and just about any scale you can
think of. You can select which scales you want to include in your exercises, what clef to use, and
if you want the exercises to be timed. Finally, you can practice melodic dictation. The program will
play a scale and then ask you to identify a series of notes. You can choose the amount of notes to
identify and the tempo at which they are played.
The following scales are available in this section: Major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor,
major pentatonic, minor pentatonic. Jazz modes, dorian, phrygian, lydian, mixolydian, aeolian, locrian
and ionian. Gregorian Modes I - VIII. And other scales: Whole tone, diminished whole-half, diminished
half-whole, and chromatic.
This program really covers a wide variety of chords. You'll get exercises for learning chord construction,
chord identification and ear-training. You'll even get advanced exercises with secondary dominents,
chord progression ear-training, harmonic functions and more.
The tests can include any inversions you want or root position chords only.
You can choose to have the chords arpeggiated or all the notes can be played together.
The chord exercises can be done with or without a timer.
You can choose any or all of the following chords in your exercises:
Major, minor, diminished and augmented triads.
Dominant 7th, major 7th, minor 7th, diminished and half dim. 7ths, dominant 7#5, dominant 7b5.
Dominant major 9th, dominant minor 9th, major 7th with 9th, minor 7th with 9th,
augmented 9th. Eleventh and thirteenth chords. Other
chords include: French, German, and Italian augmented sixth chords, neopolitan 6ths,
secondary dominants, and secondary dim 7ths.
Teoria contains a score keeping system so you can keep track of your progress with
each exercise. Other features include MIDI keyboard support. If you
have a MIDI keyboard, you can use it to enter your answers. Answers can also be
entered with your computer's keyboard and mouse, or you can use the virtual piano
keyboard or guitar fretboard built into the program. You are also able to choose
any instrument sound for the ear-training exercises. Another great feature is the
"learning" section for each topic. For example, if you wanted to find out what
notes are in a certain chord, Teoria's chord construction tool can show you. You'll
also have access to a huge amount of music theory information identical to what you'd
find in college level classes. We're confident that Teoria will improve your
skills as a musician.
